Data Package Description

For some years now, debates about the situation and profile of general educational science have been intensifying. The data set provided was created in the context of a project group that came together on the occasion of an invitation at the end of 2020 from the board of the DGfE Commission on Science Studies to empirically examine the past and present aggregate states of “general educational science” or “general pedagogy” (hereinafter referred to as AEW).
In the first step, the group of relevant people for AEW was determined and surveyed on the basis of denominations. This is an institutionally and organizationally justified setting that follows a disciplinary logic: Professors who hold a chair in educational science or a professorship in educational science with a denomination relevant to the project context or who head such work areas are, according to the label, concerned with AEW (at least in part) in their everyday work at the time of the survey. They represent this aspect of the discipline, train future potential researchers for the discipline, etc. Accordingly, data was collected from all educational science locations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (including universities and teacher training colleges) in order to compile a list of general educational scientists (n = 184). This list forms the starting point or data basis for the present data package. This is a list of publications that can be assigned to the AEW in terms of personnel (by denomination). The FIS Bildung literature database was used to create the dataset of AEW publications.
