Data Package Description

Based on an analysis of maximally contrasting cases (institutions of higher education, subjects) it was examined how the change in appointment procedures affects the relation of the participating actors and their enactment of institutional logics. For this purpose, eight universities and four Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) with different profiles were selected originally. The analysis is concentrated on the subjects sociology/social sciences (university + UAS), engineering (university + UAS), physics (university) and medicine (university) in order to cover subject-specific differences (concerning tasks, work processes, endowment of the professorship, disciplinary performance standards, etc.). A total of 76 guideline-based expert interviews were conducted with university heads, deans, chairpersons of appointments committees, equal opportunities commissioners of selected institutions of higher education. The respective requirements, experiences with and assessment of appointment procedures were in the focus. This sample was reduced to the status group of chairpersons of appointments committees. For further information on the sample rationale and data editing method please consult the Data and Methods Report.
