Case Study 1: Expert Interviews with scientific staff in homogeneous and heterogeneous research clusters 

Scientific Personnel (university administration, scholars in (partial) leadership roles or coordination roles) from completed and at the time of the data collection ongoing homogeneous or heterogeneous research clusters from nature, technology, life and social sciences as well as the humanities with different sizes and different funding backgrounds.

Research clusters were chosen on the basis of different levels of heterogeneity. Overall, four research clusters, which, together, contain all DFG study fields as well as completely different support programs, which consult a variety of agents, were considered. For every research cluster, 2-3 participants were interviewed, among them spokespersons, Principal Investigator, and where applicable management/coordination.
