Interviews with professors 

The sampling is based on the population of state higher education institutions (HEI) for which the proportion of digital courses in the summer semester 2022 could be determined. Three HEI were selected from these. The sampling strategy aimed at a maximum contrast of structural characteristics of the HEI, which were assumed to be relevant as organizational contexts for the use of digital technologies in teaching. The professors interviewed at the chosen HEI were selected on the basis of the following criteria: Career stage (long-standing professors with more than five years vs. newly appointed professors with less than five years in their first professorship) and subject culture (hard-pure, hard-applied, soft-pure, soft-applied).
