The first Graduate Panel was c... moreonducted in 1989, since then every fourth graduate cohort has been surveyed. For each cohort of graduates, several waves of interviews are conducted, each wave taking place at different intervals from the time of graduation. The 2013 Graduate Panel is the seventh cohort of graduates in the study series. Even more than the graduate cohorts of 2005 and 2009, the study phase of the 2013 cohort is characterised by the changes in higher education within the framework of the Bologna Process and changes with regard to the comparability of degrees and the resulting changes in mobility. The career entry phase of the 2013 graduate cohort is characterised by an upswing after a severe depression as a result of the economic and financial crisis in 2008. In contrast to previous cohorts, persons with traditional degrees (Diplom or Magister) are no longer part of the sample in the 2013 cohort. (Exceptions exist for certain degree programmes in individual federal states which continue to award a Diplom degree). less

The DZHW Graduate Panel 1993 comprises the second graduate cohort of the survey series. The surveys conducted as part of the 1993 graduate panel were intended to provide universities and science administrations with empirically based data to help guide decisions about study or university reforms. In addition, in view of the changes in the employment system and the sometimes crisis-ridden career start phases for many graduates of this year, the changes in structures and conditions of career entry and professional integration and disintegration were also examined. less

The survey provides insights into the experiences of European graduates during their studies and the impact on their professional lives and their lives as European citizens. Graduates were surveyed one year (t +1, cohort 2016/17) or five years (t +5, cohort 2012/13) after graduation. The main topics of the EUROGRADUATE pilot survey are: labour market relevance, skills, (international) mobility, political participation, and further studies. The results alllow comparing different higher education systems in Europe as well as analysing country-specific processes of vocational and social integration of higher education graduates. At the European level, these data can be used to monitor progress towards the European Higher Education Area and, where appropriate, to identify areas where investment should be increased and resources expanded. less

For every graduate y... moreear (cohort) a series of survey waves are carried out with each wave occurring at a different time before and after graduation, implemented as a combined cohort-panel-design. The Panel Study of School Leavers 2008 comprises the 17th cohort of the survey series with three survey waves. In contrast to preceding cohorts, the study phase of the 2008 cohort is defined by the implementation of the two-cycle degree programme (bachelor’s and master’s degree). This change has been taken into account through a detailed recording of educational choices relevant for the course of study. The time shift in the survey implementation compared to previous cohorts made it possible to interview a higher proportion of students pursuing a master’s degree. The consequences of the decision of the Federal Supreme Court in 2005, which facilitated charging general tuition fees from the beginning of the first degree in seven federal states, could also be registered during the first survey wave of the 2008 cohort. less

With respect to this academic structural reform, a significant number of Bachelor graduates were surveyed for the first time in addition to graduates of traditional courses of study. Only graduates of subjects with a large number of graduates were considered. In addition to the changing academic environment, the graduate cohort 2005 also faced different labour market conditions than previous cohorts, whereby the beginning of the economic and financial crisis in 2008 marks their career entry. less

The data from the 18th Social Survey provide a snapshot within the process of the Bologna reforms, which, for the students, was primarily associated with the introduction of a tiered study structure. At the same time, the legal conditions for the reintroduction of general tuition fees had been created in seven federal states ("Bundesländer"). Students from 18 universities in 11 federal states of Germany took part in the web survey. While the first wave focusses on a variety of different theoretical constructs for students with some study experience, the subsequent second wave is aimed at collecting those constructs for the first waves' first semester students. Consequently, the activity profile of research reporting is acquiring new characteristics. The guiding hypothesis of the project was that the utilisation of networked information systems for data collection, processing, and analysis—as well as the growing importance of (quantitative) performance evaluation in research for strategic organisational decisions—would give rise to a new type of personnel working within science management. In light of this, BERTI posed the overarching question: what professional roles are emerging as a result of the dissemination and utilisation of digital information systems for performance recording and research reporting within research organisations? This data package comprises information from a quantitative online survey conducted among German research infrastructure project managers and those responsible for quality assurance and research planning. For some years now, debates about the situation and profile of general educational science have been intensifying. The data set provided was created in the context of a project group that came together on the occasion of an invitation at the end of 2020 fr... moreom the board of the DGfE Commission on Science Studies to empirically examine the past and present aggregate states of “general educational science” or “general pedagogy” (hereinafter referred to as AEW). In the first step, the group of relevant people for AEW was determined and surveyed on the basis of denominations. This is an institutionally and organizationally justified setting that follows a disciplinary logic: Professors who hold a chair in educational science or a professorship in educational science with a denomination relevant to the project context or who head such work areas are, according to the label, concerned with AEW (at least in part) in their everyday work at the time of the survey. They represent this aspect of the discipline, train future potential researchers for the discipline, etc. Accordingly, data was collected from all educational science locations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (including universities and teacher training colleges) in order to compile a list of general educational scientists (n = 184). This list forms the starting point or data basis for the present data package. This is a list of publications that can be assigned to the AEW in terms of personnel (by denomination). The FIS Bildung literature database was used to create the dataset of AEW publications. less

The first two cohorts in the years 2020-2023 were surveyed. ... moreParticipation in the study was voluntary.It is a longitudinal study with two measurement points, a baseline measurement at the beginning of the winter semester 2020/21 or winter semester 2021/22 and a second measurement after four semesters at the end of the summer semester 2022 or 2023. Since it is compulsory for most students in the LAGS to study the subjects German and mathematics, a measurement of characteristics with regard to these two subjects took place at both measurement points. For this purpose, separate subject-specific online surveys were conducted for German and mathematics, which recorded similar constructs using similar instruments. The data from the baseline measurement and the measurement after four semesters were linked to form a data set using an anonymous personal code generated by the students. Variables were collected in the areas of socio-demographic characteristics, students' study potential, study success criteria and study behavior. These are the following study success criteria, which are mentioned as examples for the subject German, but were also collected analogously for the subject mathematics: Subject knowledge of German, knowledge of German didactics, academic self-concept with regard to studying German, enthusiasm for German as a subject, self-efficacy in teaching German and satisfaction with courses in German. The intention to drop out of university was also surveyed. less

To enable comparability of the findings with the population of all students, the questionnaire was methodologically closely aligned with the 18th Social Survey, which had been conducted in 2006. less

Causes of dropout in master's programs (StuMa)

The study "StuMa" deals with the causes of dropping out of a master's program and the further professional development after dropping out of a master's program. While there are some data available for undergraduate programs that allow an analysis of possib... morele causes of dropout, there is no suitable database for master's programs. Due to the comparatively low dropout rates in master's programs, dropout in this phase of studies has not yet been perceived as a research topic in higher education research. StuMa is the first nationwide survey that is aimed exclusively at Master's students and generates a database to determine the study situation and the reasons for dropping out of Master's studies, as well as to analyze the professional fate of those who have dropped out. To realize the study, an online survey was conducted with de-registered students (with and without a degree) from master's programs at German state universities in the winter semester 2018/19 and the summer semester 2019. less

Together with the 21st Social Survey, the survey best2 forms a building block for the creation of a data basis for the legal implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN-BRK). In addition, the data from the best2 study - also with regard to the HRK recommendation "A Higher Education Institution for All" - provide important steering knowledge for higher education managers, consultants and other higher education policy actors for breaking down barriers. best2 is a joint project carried out jointly with the German National Association for Student Affairs (DSW) and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The DZHW cooperated closely with the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna (IHS), which already conducted the first data collection on the situation of students with disabilities and chronic illness in 2011, on the implementation and evaluation of the survey as well as on the preparation of the report. less
