The study ... moreelaborates reservations and understandings in the scientific field about partial randomization and clarifies what is currently considered scientifically adequate. For this purpose, a quantitative survey was carried out with scientists in Lower Saxony in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics as well as in engineering and history. Questions were asked about assessments and attitudes towards the peer review process, research funding and the lottery procedure. In addition to socio-demographic and job-related information, also questions were asked about experiences in the peer review process and with research proposals. Then, in the qualitative sub-study, problem-centered interviews were conducted with scientists in different status groups. This data is also available as a data package (DOI). The data package includes data from the core set of the 10th to 21st Social Survey (1982-2016). The twelve individual scientific use files available at the FDZ-DZHW were pooled in an complex data preparation process to form an integrated dataset, which now enables elaborate time series analysis procedures on the aspects covered. less

The Student Survey in Germany (2021)

"The Student Survey in Germany" (2021) is a newly designed study that integrates three previously separate student surveys (Beuße et al., 2022): the Social Survey (Middendorff et al., 2017; Middendorff & Wallis, 2023), the Student Survey (Multrus et al... more., 2017; Multrus, 2021) and the survey "best - Studying with impairments" (Poskowsky et al., 2018; Unger et al., 2012). The study is designed as a cross-sectional survey with a long-term character. The new, integrated student survey thus continues the long tradition of the Social Survey and the Student Survey as important cross-sectional long-term observation studies for describing and analysing higher education and the student population in Germany, as well as the significantly shorter tradition of the previous "best studies". The survey covered a variety of topics relating to the study situation and the different life situations of students in Germany. The content of the programme is very diverse, as the thematic focuses of the previously separate surveys were integrated. In the tradition of the Social Survey, the economic and social situation of students is analysed (Middendorff, 2022). This focus is supplemented by topics from the student survey (Multrus et al., 2017). In addition, for the first time the new study design enables comparisons between students with and without health impairments that make studying difficult (Steinkühler et al., 2023). By combining survey content in this way, cross-connections between different subject areas can be established. This data package contains the survey data from the summer semester 2021. less

The 2017 graduate survey is the first collaborative project in the context of the DZHW graduate study series. The joint partners DZHW, INCHER, and ISTAT aim to take into account the interests of different user groups as comprehensively as possible. To this end, a jointly coordinated and redesigned instrument is to make it possible to take into account questions of both national education monitoring and higher education management and research (Fabian, Flöther & Reifenberg, 2021). Thematically, the 2017 graduate survey focuses on the transition to the labor market (or to further academic qualifications) and an initial labor market placement. The basic population comprises all persons who obtained a doctorate degree from a higher education institution with the right to award doctorates in Germany in the examination year of 2014. The panel is designed as a census in order to generate a sufficiently high number of cases. Apart from basic data for the education report, the data set includes detailed information on the learning and development conditions during the doctorate studies as well as the career path of PhD holders after graduation. The data set also includes a range of personality traits (Big Five, self-efficacy, internal/external locus of control) together with background information on sociographic and educational biography. less
