Data Package Description

The sixth survey of the Student Survey also focuses on the comparison between the old and the new federal states. It covers the following topics: importance and significance of studying, status of students and identification with the chosen field of study; time spent studying and intended duration of study, reasons for delays in studying and measures to shorten the duration of study; requirements of studying in terms of performance level and regulatory density, type and scope of requirements, e.g., practical and research relevance; study strategies (e.g., study abroad), student employment and acquisition of additional qualifications (e.g., foreign languages). The study of the quality of teaching and study, the suitability of different forms of teaching for progress in studies, the extent of contact and the quality of relationships with teachers, the use and evaluation of advisory services, the demands and wishes of students for the development of higher education and the improvement of the study situation. The data are based on random samples at 13 universities and ten universities of applied sciences in West Germany and comprise 667 items (plus additionally created variables).
